As the diversity and complexity of EO data available continues to increase, so too does our need for an efficient and effective means of accessing and extracting information from EO data. Earth Observation is entering the world of Big Data!
Traditional download-based approaches for data exploitation have become unsustainable. However, the increasing demand for and usage of EO data in a wide range of scientific and R & D sectors provides opportunities for the introduction of new and innovative approaches to EO data exploitation.
It has long been recognised that moving processing closer to the data is needed to overcome the challenges presented by Big Data. C-TEP is an on-going project dedicated to the observation of coastal environment and resources. C-TEP is an ESA funded multi-partner initiative, supporting innovative approaches to the management of Europe’s coasts and enabling cutting edge coastal research.
